The document “Analysis of experiences in the production and use of RDF in South East Europe” was prepared for the project “Co-processing of municipal waste as an alternative fuel in the cement industry in BiH”. The project is implemented in the period 2015-2018. Partners in the project are the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ) – the develoPPP program, the Cement Factory Kakanj, the REZ Agency and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica.

The goal of the project is the use of processed industrial, municipal waste and waste tires as an energy source in the production of cement in BiH. Expected results of the project are the reduction of the amount of fossil fuels used in the cement industry and the reduction of municipal waste at landfills. Preparation of the analysis was necessary within the project to show the experiences in the production and use of RDF in the area of South East Europe. The goal of this document is to collect relevant information on the possibility of commencing RDF production from industrial and municipal waste and its use as an alternative fuel in the Kakanj Cement Factory for the continuous supply of the plant by this energy source.

The analysis covers countries in the region including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Kosovo, as well as Austria, Hungary and Germany.
