REZ Agency organized a seminar “Municipal waste management in the context of the Strategy for adapting BiH regulations to the EU Acquis in environmental protection”

Regional Development Agency for the region of Central BiH – REZ Agency organized a seminar in Zenica on 4 July 2017 on the very topical theme “Municipal waste management in the context of the Strategy for adapting BiH regulations to the EU acquis regarding environmental protection” within the project “Processing municipal waste as an alternative fuel in the cement industry in BiH“.

The project “Processing of municipal waste as an alternative fuel in the cement industry in BiH” is implemented by German International Cooperation (GIZ) through the Program of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development – develoPPP.de and Kakanj Cement Factory with partners Regional Development Agency for Central BiH – REZ Agency and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica.

The seminar is intended for representatives of municipalities, public utility companies, regional landfills and ministries dealing with environmental protection. During the topic presentation, Ms Sanela Popović, a representative of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, pointed out that the Strategy for approximation of regulations to the acquis of the European Union in environmental protection of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the most important document in the area of environmental protection. Also, she said, adoption of the document opens the door for BiH to access various EU funds and platforms for the Western Balkans.

Representative of the consulting company “Enova d.o.o. Sarajevo”, presented the document “The Impact of municipal waste on the environment in the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Central Bosnia Canton and Sarajevo Canton”, which was done within the aforementioned project. The presentation was followed by a constructive discussion, which showed a great interest of all participants of the seminar on this issue.

The seminar was attended by thirty representatives of the mentioned institutions and organizations.
